Mobile Advocacy Services
Safe Passage Empowerment Specialists can meet survivors in one of our five office locations, or at an alternative safe place to determine next steps for your immediate safety, wellbeing and a better future.
What is an Empowerment Specialist?
An Empowerment Specialist is Safe Passages’ unique title for our victim advocates who offer support to survivors of power-based violence. Empowerment Specialists understand the impact of trauma and are active listeners, empathetic, and focused on empowering you. They also advocate alongside you and provide resources to further aide in your healing as well as assisting in navigating systems that you may be involved with, such as prosecutors’ office – as well as other areas of the court, Department of Child Services, and school systems.
Empowerment Specialists can also link you to other supports like mental health, housing, food, legal, transportation, and more. However, they are not therapists, counselors, psychologists, or lawyers, and they cannot diagnose, provide medications, provide legal counsel, or legal recommendations.
Youth
Safe Passage can help parents/caregivers process dating violence or unwanted sexual experiences that happened in their older youth’s lives. A spectrum of feelings, ranging from guilt, anger, or confusion, can happen. Our Empowerment Specialists (see above) can provide support, a listening ear, advocacy, and/or assist with navigating systems. To learn more please call or text our Helpline: 1-877-733-1990
For anyone under the age of 18, when you tell an adult, they are required by law to report it. Please know that what you experienced isn’t your fault and your safety and well-being is our number one concern!
With Parental Consent, older youth who have experienced dating violence or unwanted sexual experiences are eligible to receive support services and/or general education from Safe Passage’s Prevention Team. When you call or text our Helpline at 1-877-733-1990 you can let them know your family is interested in learning more about Teen support.
Hospital Response
Safe Passage has trained staff who provide one-on-one support to victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault, rape, and/or strangulation/suffocation due to relationship violence, who need to be examined at a hospital. Our staff can assist victims with emotional support, resources for follow-up services and more. Safe Passage is on call 24/7 and can meet you at the hospital.
